| Padmashree Dr. Robin Banerjee |
Death : 06.08.2003
Born at Behrampur in Murshidabad district of West Bengal and educated in Santinikatan, Calcutta Medical College, Edinburgh University; a former Medical Officer with British Royal Navy, Dr. Robin Banerjee - a physician, an avid gardener, prolific painter and photographer first came to Assam as a Medical Officer of Central T. E. Hospital in 1952. A visit to Kaziranga, the famous wild life sanctuary with its abundant greenery, blue hills at a distance and the mighty Brahmaputra flowing by made him fall in love with the place. He decided to stay on in Assam and show this nature's paradise to the world through his camera. His first film on Kaziranga took five and a half years to complete. It was entitled India's Wildlife Heritage and it was televised by Berlin TV in 1952. Since then he has been spreading his message about the conservation of Wildlife Heritage.
Presently, Dr Banerjee lives in the heart of Golaghat town in an exquisite bunglow. The bunglow itself is a museum, treasure - trove of antiques, miniature arts, crafts, sculpture, paintings and photographs from all over the world. The bunglow houses "Uncle Robin's Children Museum".

Mr.
Guna Ram Khanikar is one of the noted
herbal practitioner, writer and researcher of
entire North East Region of India and founder of the Regional
Research and Training Centre of Indian Traditional
Treatment, Tetelitol, Golaghat, Assam. He has had made
significant contributions in the field of
herbal medicine. Protection of indigenous plants which provides the cure
in this system of medicines, has been his life long commitment.
He has written and published 35 nos. of books on the subject of herbal medicine. He has established a medicinal plants garden named Khanikar Bondorobor Bagicha at Chakardhora near Golaghat Town. In this garden, some rare and endangered plants have also been planted.

| Aideo Handique - The First Female Cine Star of Assam |
Smti Aideo Handique was born in the1919. She was
given a name by her parents when she was born but everybody endearingly
used to call her 'Aideo' which stuck and she herself now does not
remember what was that name given to her by her parents.
When Aideo was about 13 years of age, a person named Dimba Borgohain took her and her younger brother Keshab to Gomirighat near Bokakhat to see Ferries plying on the river Brahmaputra.However from there without her knowledge, she was taken to Bholoaguri T. E. in Sonitpur District where Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwalla was in the process of making the first Assamese film Joymoti. He was on the look out for a girl to play the role of Ahom princess Joymoti in the film and Aideo with her looks and bearings fitted perfectly for the role. She was made to act in the movie which ultimately changed the entire course of her life. After completing shooting when she returned home she was ostracized by the village people because at that time acting by a female was considered a taboo. She remained unmarried and now leads a lonely life at her home in Panidihing Gaon, near Kamargaon.

Anupam
Saikia, the first wrangler from Assam was born in 13.1.1973. He is
the son of Shri Hari Prasad Saikia and Srimati Usha Saikia of Ward No. 8,
Chitra Sen Kakoty Path, Golaghat.
He passed H.S.L.C. examination in 1989 from Govt. B B.Higher Secondary School securing 18th position with letter marks in 5 subjects. He completed his graduation from St. Stephens College, Delhi in 1994 securing 1st class. In 1994, he secured the Commonwealth Trust Scholarship which completely changed his life. On his scholarship he proceeded to Cambridge University and passed Tripes Exam in Mathematics in 1996 from Trinity College and declared a Wrangler. The Trinity College, Cambridge offered scholarship to him to complete his Ph.D. Course. He has recently completed his Thesis. Meanwhile he has again secured a scholarship from French Government for doing his Post Doctorate Course.
